FixUp Kombucha
Kombucha tea is a bubbly, fermented drink that contains antioxidants and natural probiotics. Handcrafted in Austin, Texas, FixUp kombucha drives everything you care about, including mood, energy, immunity, blood sugar, and even sleep. Do yourself a favor and fix up your body while enjoying a nice cold bottle of FixUp kombucha.

Final Design
FixUp Kombucha is a company that I created for the sake of this project. FixUp is a company that uses their geometric, abstract, and organic designs to promote their healthy beverage lifestyle. By using direct flavor names like “RED” and “ORANGE”, FixUp flexes its simplicity to attract attention from loyal consumers that have a knack for products that have good design with a clear message.

Challenge
I was tasked with creating a company that serves kombucha and to create the packaging for their product. This company needed to stand out on store shelves compared to its competitors as well as appeal to the target audience of the product. The challenge here was really narrowing down which direction I wanted to move forward with in my design in order to properly communicate the brands image.
Target Audience
The target audience is compromised of young adults ranging from 18-30+, with an appreciation for finer things in life. They enjoy trying out new products, and wouldn’t hesitate to put something in their cart based on great packaging. According to the target audience food = fashion.

Research & Inspiration
I started by researching other kombucha brands in order to establish what the competition looks like. There are many different kombucha companies with completely different design styles but that didn’t stop me from thinking of ways to create something new to the kombucha scene. I also gathered inspiration from bottle/can designs that would stand out when next to other kombucha designs.
Sketches
After measuring the dimensions for the bottle I was able to move on to the sketching process. Many of my ideas evolved around large text on a grid that was paired with fun vibrant-colored geometric shapes. I sketched different options for scaling large type with small illustrations, small type with large illustrations, and a mix of trying to find a medium of the two.
Drafts
My first drafts consisted of four different styles. I wanted to create something that was vastly different compared to other kombucha brands. Thanks to my classmates’ and professors’ critique, I was able to narrow down which style would appeal best to my target audience. I continued to work on the two middle options and eventually combined different elements from each of the styles to create the final product.
Reflection
The sleek, modern looking design that became the final is something that stands out compared to other kombucha brands while still maintaining the appeal to the target audience. I would love to expand on this project and possibly create more flavors in order to turn this into a series.
